2. Basic principle: local data processing
OneTwo Text Editor has no server of the developer, no user account, no sign-in, no advertising and no tracking. The app contains no AI features. Text is never sent to a server of the developer. The developer receives no content from the app. All text transformations run on your device.
3. What data the app stores
What you write is entirely up to you. The app stores your documents (texts and names), color tags, pinned documents, the list of open tabs and settings, for example the selection of commands in the toolbar. For files you open directly, the app remembers the file references (bookmarks), the “Recents” list and unsaved changes. This information stays on the respective device and is not synced through iCloud.
4. Storage location and protection on the device
- Local: Your documents are kept on your iPhone, iPad or Mac. Widgets show pinned, recently edited and color-tag documents. For this the app stores a snapshot (title, modification date, tags, pinned and locked status, and a text excerpt of at most 120 characters) in the shared container of an app group on your device on iPhone, iPad and Mac. You can turn the text excerpts off in the settings; locked documents never get an excerpt.
- Document lock: You can lock individual documents with Face ID, Touch ID or your device passcode or Mac password. Locking is off by default. The prompt appears only when you want to open a locked document or remove the lock. The check is performed exclusively by the operating system; the developer gets no access to your biometric data. The lock is a privacy screen inside the app: it hides the content in the app and in widgets, but it does not additionally encrypt the stored text.
5. iCloud sync (optional)
On first launch the app asks once whether to use iCloud. If you turn on sync, your documents and tags are synchronized between your Apple devices via the private CloudKit database of your own iCloud account. The transfer runs exclusively through Apple’s infrastructure; the developer has no access to this data. Together with each document the app stores the name of the device that last changed it and a randomly generated installation identifier in order to detect conflicts between devices. View settings such as the document list filter are synchronized through Apple’s iCloud key-value storage. For syncing, the app uses silent CloudKit notifications (background mode “remote-notification”). Apple’s privacy terms apply: apple.com/legal/privacy. You can turn sync on and off per device under Settings › iCloud. Without iCloud or with sync turned off the app works fully locally.
6. Files
On iPhone, iPad and Mac you open and save text files directly where they are stored (for example through the Files app, “Open in” or, on the Mac, through the Finder). In addition you can import text files into the library and export them from it; each time a copy is created. The app accesses only files that you explicitly select. On the Mac it runs in the App Sandbox with access to user-selected files. The app remembers open files through bookmarks so that open tabs reappear after a restart. If another program changes an open file, the app notices.
7. Permissions
OneTwo Text Editor does not need special system permissions such as location, camera or contacts. Face ID, Touch ID or the device passcode are used only for the document lock. An internet connection is required for the optional iCloud sync.
8. Exports, printing and sharing
Exported, printed or shared documents (text files, PDF) are files under your control. Where you store or send them is up to you.
9. Contact by email
If you write to support, I process your email address and the content of your message to answer your request. Please do not send confidential text content by email. The “write a message” function in the app merely opens your mail program with the recipient pre-filled; nothing is transmitted until you send the email yourself.
10. Legal basis
Where personal data is processed, this is done to provide the app functions you request (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). For the optional iCloud sync and the optional document lock it is your consent by turning on the feature (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). Answering support requests is based on Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR.
11. Disclosure to third parties
Your documents are not disclosed to third parties, except for the technically necessary processing by Apple described above as part of the optional iCloud sync.
12. Your rights
Your documents are on your device or in your own iCloud account; you can view, edit, export and delete them in the app at any time. In addition, you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection, data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, subject to the legal requirements.
