2. Basic principle: local data processing
OneTwo Markdown has no server of the developer, no advertising, no analytics or tracking libraries and no user account with the developer. The app contains no AI features and makes no connection to AI providers or other third-party servers. The developer receives no content from the app. If a Markdown document contains the address of an image on the internet, the preview may load that image from the respective provider; that provider then learns your IP address. The app itself does not call such addresses. Links in the preview open in the browser or the responsible app only when you tap them.
3. What data the app stores
What you write is entirely up to you. The app stores your documents (texts and names), color tags, filters and settings.
4. Storage location and protection on the device
- Local: Your documents are kept on your iPhone, iPad or Mac. For the widgets the app stores a snapshot in the shared app group container on your device: document names and, unless you turn it off in Settings, short text excerpts. Locked documents appear in it with their name only. The snapshot is not synced through iCloud.
- Document lock: You can lock individual documents with Face ID, Touch ID or device passcode, on the Mac with Touch ID or user password. A locked document shows no content, no preview and no content matches in search, and cannot be copied, shared, printed, exported or duplicated until you unlock it. The check is performed exclusively by the operating system; the developer gets no access to your biometric data or to the document content before unlocking. Face ID is used for this feature only.
5. iCloud sync (optional)
On first launch the app asks once whether to use iCloud. If you turn on sync, your documents and color tags are synchronized between your Apple devices via the private CloudKit database of your own iCloud account. Independently of that, the app syncs the selected document browser filter through iCloud Key-Value Storage as long as you are signed in to iCloud. To detect changes from other devices, the app uses the background mode for remote notifications; it does not show visible notifications. The transfer runs exclusively through Apple’s infrastructure; the developer has no access to this data. Apple’s privacy terms apply: apple.com/legal/privacy. You can turn sync on and off per device under Settings › iCloud. Without iCloud or with sync turned off the app works fully locally.
6. Files
You open .md and .markdown files via the Files app or the Finder and save them back to where they came from. The app accesses only files that you explicitly select. On the Mac it runs in the App Sandbox with access to user-selected files. If another program changes an open file, the app silently reloads it; only if you have unsaved changes does it ask which version should win.
7. Permissions
OneTwo Markdown does not need special system permissions such as location, camera or contacts. Face ID or Touch ID is used only for the document lock. An internet connection is required for the optional iCloud sync.
8. Exports, printing and sharing
Exported, printed or shared documents (Markdown, HTML, PDF) are files under your control. Where you store or send them is up to you.
9. Contact by email
If you write to support, I process your email address and the content of your message to answer your request. The “Write message” function in the app only opens your mail program with a prefilled draft; nothing is sent until you send it yourself. Please do not send confidential document content by email.
10. Legal basis
Where personal data is processed, this is done to provide the app functions you request (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). For the optional iCloud sync and the optional document lock it is your consent by turning on the feature (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). Answering support requests is based on Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR.
11. Disclosure to third parties
Your documents are not disclosed to third parties, except for the technically necessary processing by Apple described above as part of the optional iCloud sync.
12. Your rights
Your documents are on your device or in your own iCloud account; you can view, edit, export and delete them in the app at any time. In addition, you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection, data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, subject to the legal requirements.
